What's Left of Maplewood (MN)

We can't draw, so we are left with verbal cartoons about Maplewood city politics.

Elements of Style

Is it just me, have Longrie, Cave, and Hjelle managed somehow to get indistinguishable writing voices in their recent City News columns? If they didn't have a byline, could you guess who had written them?

Wordsmith Becky

Ahh!

The dulcet tones of our council linguist, miss becky. During the Comforts of Home Design Review Amendment portion of the meeting...

Did she really say "...the person-who-puts-it-on expert..."?!?

becky. How about doing something novel. Like actually reading the packets (or even the occasional dictionary) instead of taking direction from campaign manager, diana.

Let us help you out. I think the term you were looking for is installers.

Meta

Something we can hope to see soon: WLOM's Critique of Mayor Longrie's Critique of Council Member Juenemann's Critique of Council Member Cave's Critique of Council Member Rossbach's Critique of Council Member Hjelle's Critique of Council Member Rossbach's Critique of the City Manager Review.

If my blogmates who get around to posting far too rarely get around to it, I should add. (I've been a little busy lately myself.)

After the performance review

The bit players in the sideshow all take a bow.

Now Copeland can get back to performing.

Friends, Enemies & erik the Campaign Manager

I had actually composed this about a month ago and delayed posting it. Perhaps it was to let it mature, like a fine wine in the cellar. Suddenly, it seems all the more ripe considering the boot licking someone received last night during various portions of the council meetings. So, for your reading pleasure, I have decided to pop the cork...

------------

Who needs enemies when you have friends like Erik.

Now I know why he wasn't planning on running again. He must have known from the start that he couldn't keep his foot out of his mouth. The following quote could turn out to be something of a hiking boot...

From the Schwieger investigation (See page 30.)...

Mr. Hjelle also makes an interesting statement in response to Mr.Rossbach:"

As a reminder Mr. Copeland is the Councils employee. We have the right to hire and terminate at will. It was our obligation
to verify his credentials, not to city employees who
have personal history, issues and concerns with their
employer. We failed as the hiring body to do our jobs and we allowed the mess to occur."

Let's look at that last statement again."We failed as the hiring body to doour jobs and we allowed the mess to occur." (By the way, I added the emphasis.)

Since it is the majority of the council that sets the direction, it appears above that erik the great is admitting that the three musketeers failed to do their job. And now, even erik feels that the situation with our interim city manager is a mess.

I think rebecca needs a new campaign manager. I'm not sure erik is doing so well in that capacity, choking on his size 11s.
