Elements of Style
Is it just me, have Longrie, Cave, and Hjelle managed somehow to get indistinguishable writing voices in their recent City News columns? If they didn't have a byline, could you guess who had written them?
We can't draw, so we are left with verbal cartoons about Maplewood city politics.

I never thought of Erik as a "girlie-man" until I saw him use the word "wonderful" THREE times in his last letter in the last Maplewood city newsletter. Yep, those articles are strangely out of character.

There's a similarity to them, but there is also a difference. Erik's article had much less of the directly antagonistic tone than Rebecca's. And it seemed to be less about electioneering than hers as well.

'Rope-a-Dope' probably wouldn't be a good clue for readers too young to get the Manilla rhyme - might think it's a game for after a particularly vigorous open meeting law violation.
