Elements of Style

Is it just me, have Longrie, Cave, and Hjelle managed somehow to get indistinguishable writing voices in their recent City News columns? If they didn't have a byline, could you guess who had written them?

I never thought of Erik as a "girlie-man" until I saw him use the word "wonderful" THREE times in his last letter in the last Maplewood city newsletter. Yep, those articles are strangely out of character.

If you didn't think of Erik as a "girlie-man" you haven't been paying attention.

There's a similarity to them, but there is also a difference. Erik's article had much less of the directly antagonistic tone than Rebecca's. And it seemed to be less about electioneering than hers as well.

Since she is writing for the three of them, perhaps we can convice Queen Chameleon to retire from her supposed CAREER as Mayor of our fair 'burb and take up a new full-time vocation as a ghost writer. Her first real challenge (which it appears she has already undertaken) will be for her to turn our Becky into a real fall contender...

'Rope-a-Dope' probably wouldn't be a good clue for readers too young to get the Manilla rhyme - might think it's a game for after a particularly vigorous open meeting law violation.
