Daily troll highlights

Dear troll(s):
Please use bullet points in the comments to this thread to post the daily messages assigned to you. That will save us all the time of reading the camocrap you normally use to embed your assigned message. LI is a useful tag.
Example:

  • (from comments) They can also call the papers from time to time and make accusations.
  • (from the magicly appearing wiki article) Several efforts have been made by detractors to generate newspaper articles critical of Longrie, Cave, and Hjelle

If you cooperate we will give you a daily message to feed in.

Thank you.

    Heh.

If you look at the Wikipedia change log, you see that the most recent big pro-Longrie edit was created by a first time wiki user at 64.131.7.123, which is the same IP address used by our late-night poster in the wee hours of this morning.

I am amused that one of the edits was to change the order of the names of the council members, so that Jueneman and Rossbach are listed after Hjelle and Cave. LOL!

Just to keep Wikipedia in perspective, for all the obvious reasons, here's my favorite Onion article on the topic:

Frostbrand, I think the names were changed to put them in alphabetical order. I don't see a problem with that. Maybe the person altering the name arrangement should have noted this for those of us who don't know the alphabet very well.

Alright! Who signed up for usfamily.net?!?!

Dear Troll from 64.131.7.123, posting here at 1:25 PM:

The original entry listed them in order of seniority on the council.

Since you made this change, and you have demonstrated limited faculties with the English language, I'm doubtful that it was motivated by your compulsion to alphabetize.

Now get back to editing Wikipedia and claim that Longrie is foreordained to be Eternal God-Queen of Maplewood or something. :) If you post it in enough places on the internet, it might become true!

    Hugs & Kisses,
    Frostbrand

Frostbrand, whoever you are, I love your blogs, you sure make me laugh.

Thanks! It's a pleasure to entertain.

As for my own entertainment, I am amused that our troll likes to talk about him/herself in the third person, and speculate about his or her own motives.

    Remember, this:

    > Frostbrand, I think the names were
    > changed to put them in
    > alphabetical order. I don't see a
    > problem with that. Maybe the
    > person altering the name
    > arrangement should have noted this
    > for those of us who don't know the
    > alphabet very well.

...was written by the very person who made the Wikipedia edits being discussed.

To see the edits that our troll made, use this link:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Maplewood%2C_Minnesota&diff=96714225&oldid=96618925

If that's too long a line of text to show up on your screen, here it is again -- cut and paste, remove the carriage returns, and then paste it in your browser:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/
    index.php?title=Maplewood%2C_Minnesota
    &diff=96714225&oldid=96618925

On the left is the original entry; things in red were deleted by our troll. On the right is the Longrie version of history that our troll subsituted.

I just love this internet sluthing.

Frostbrand and Lookingnorth need to step back and think about this for a minute...

A guy making comments on this forum drops a hint about purchasing computer equipment that probably would fit into a $4000 or so personal computer workstation. Now you can't usually buy something like this from Best Buy. Typically you build these monsters yourself.

Here is why the wheels should be turning... Wouldn't you think that a guy/gal in this category would have the knowledge to mask their IP address to reflect that of one of the larger ISP's in the Twin Cities, and one which happens to be HQ'ed in Golden Valley?

I know all about how Paul Ostrow's campaign manager Jason Amundson got sacked. He didn't cover his trail.

For you tech heads, I use a Dual Xeon dual processor 5140 workstation with 16GB memory, 8 SAS drives in a raid 5 array, FX1500 video card, dual HD widescreen monitor desktop, and redundant 800watt power supplies. This is just computer #1.

Boy, your computer sounds really impressive. You must be very smart and important, and an expert at computer things.

What software or method do you use to surf anonymously?

Word has it that you run a computer company of sorts so you tell me?

  • At 1:14 AM, Blogger Frostbrand said…

If I ran "a computer company of sorts," and you used clever IP-masking of some kind that would conceal where you were posting from, you think I would (a) be able to figure out exactly how you were doing it, but (b) not be able to circumvent it?

I'm not the expert in these things, so I guess I'll take your word for it.

Or maybe not, since you're a proven liar. ;)

That's just it. Nothing has shown us that this person has such knowledge. They can't even put a single coherent thought together much less spoof their IP address...

    Indeed.

Only after this matter came up has our troll gone out to learn how to use open proxies. Up until very late last night he/she has not been changing IP addresses between posts, and appears to be using Qwest DSL with USFamily.net as the ISP. Mind you, they could be borrowing the connection of a neighbor's unsecured wi-fi or something, but they were always using the same connection.

If s/he had been masking the IP before, it doesn't make sense that s/he would go from some uber-hacker method down to crude open proxies (the sorts of IP addresses used by spammers and blocked, for instance, by Wikipedia in order to keep people from posting there without easy tracing).

So my belief is that this is all bluff and bluster, a little cloud of ink released when our troll panicked and ran out to learn something about web security and anonymous browsing and then give it a try. I was able to learn just as much in about half an hour on Google.

And like I said, we know (a) this is all the same person, (b) this person made the anonymous but IP-logged edits on Wikipedia, and (c) Wikipedia blocks open proxies that would allow people to post there and conceal themselves.

I just have to go back to this, because it's so amusing when you think about it.

    > I know all about how Paul Ostrow's

    > got sacked. He didn't cover his
    > trail.

So you're telling us that you're concerned to protect your identity, because being associated with the opinions you post here could cost you your job...or maybe be politically harmful to it?

You're saying that what you are doing is comparable to what Amundsen did (he sent anonymous e-mails smears attacking Keith Ellison, his boss's opponent), with the potential for similar career repercussions if you are caught?

I'm thinking that most people who live in Maplewood and support this mayor and council, who are after all in control, would not need to strike a big pose about how they are carefully guarding their anonymity and "covering their trail."

Would Copeland fire a city staffer for speaking out in favor of the Mayor or defending his honor on the internet?

    Very interesting.

    > FX1500 video card, dual HD
    > widescreen monitor desktop,

Let me just say that the video settings you use are strange choices if this is your monitor & video card set-up.

Maybe you just wanted to tell us about a computer that you don't ever use to surf the web. But, you know, if I had that computer, I'd be inclined to use it. Get the most out of the investment and all that.
