Hjelle: Not Running Again
In a wonderful article in yesterday's Star Tribune, we are treated to some good news as an aside: "Hjelle ... said last week he will not run for reelection."
That's still three years away, though, so we still have a lot of entertainment yet to get from our Chumpelopithecus.

His work is done. What more is there for him?
For that matter, why not step aside now? Then he could go back to having his evenings free.

This is old news. Hjelle said that he only had an interest in serving one term about a week after he was sworn in. He said it at two different council meetings that I personally attended in the beginning of 2006. The only person this was new to was the uninformed Star Tribune writer who probably has attended 1 meeting? Maybe 2? Real expert there.

Well, it was news to me, and I'll guess it's news to other peole who may just be starting to pay attention to City Hall.
But from what you say, it sounds like his whole aim from the start was just to get in, score his personal revenge, and then sit there looking bored and restless as he usually does. So, thanks for reinforcing that point. :)

I detect some jelosy on the part of some who didn't have what it took to get elected themselves.

Yeah, that's *exactly* what I'm hearing.
(There's a little sarcasm there, in case you can't pick up on it.)
As far as 'having what it took,' I look at Hjelle, Cave and Longrie and realize that apparently it doesn't take a whole lot.

Erik (aka 3:26 am) you spelled jealousy wrong!

It only takes a little over 5,000 voters going to the polls. That is shameful! This is what we get when 20 some thousand eligible voters don't pay attention and don't go vote.

Maybe it doesn't take a whole lot to get elected, but those three have more of what it takes than the rest of you. If any of you think you can do a better job, I guess I will be seeing your name on the ballot this fall, right?
I think our voter turnout is shameful. I continually ask myself why Jueneman or Rossbach in all of their years on the council haven't called for the motion to switch to even year elections. Apparently they have no problem with low voter turnout or they would have done it already. Also I guess they don't mind the extra expense of running elections in the odd year.
So why doesn't one of the posters here ask them why they haven't done anything. They have had how many years to correct this?

This is America 1:46 am. We are allowed to have an opinion and to express it. So by your logic since I've never been president, I cannot have an opinion on Bush.
However, I do agree that elections shouldn't be held in off years.

Why doesn't any one of the council members step forward and call for the change to even year elections?
