LookingNorth Asks, "Why...?"
A missive from LookingNorth asks why we our elected officials can't seem live up to the example set by our neighbors in Little Canada:
Frostbrand:
Over the weekend, I came across the following article from the Pioneer Press...
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/states/minnesota/counties/ramsey_county/16504010.htm
After reading it, the same thought keeps coming up in my head...
Why?
Why do the band of three need to be so uncooperative? Why can't the mayor be more democratic and less autocratic? And, after a famous line...Why can't we all just get along?
I don't see any 2AM shenanigans. I don't see any numbers doublespeak. All I see is four people having a civil discussion with some logical back-and-forth which includes a civil difference of opinion that was likely resolved within the spirit of the law.
Why can't the band of three follow this example?
Why...?

Narcissism, plain old narcissism. The pure love of themselves, their voices, their thoughts and opinions. When these losers are finally out in the street, Maplewood will still be taunted by them forever. Remember..Berglund doesn't work, Kryz"winky" doesn't work, Long"winded" works when she wants. Sick minds find each other for comfort.Obssesive compulsive helps them do what they do.

I read the article and it talks about a split council vote for appointing someone to an open seat. Sounds like Maplewood. So what.
Yeah their meetings probably don't go til 2am, but since they are about 1/4th the size of our city, and probably 1/4th the budget, and haven't had any major projects on the table like Gladstone for a decade, it isn't surprising that their meetings don't last very long.
Maybe if Maplewood cut its budget by 75%, layed off 75% of the staff, closed the community center, and eliminated all but one or two of the city parks, closed the farm, eliminated most of our city services, and then farmed out the few city services remaining to other cities, yes then we would be just like Little Canada.
No thanks, I like it just fine in Maplewood.

Just to point out, Der Trollen, Woodbury has about 10,000 more people than Maplewood, and all the things you listed off, and is a growing community with constant expansion.
You want to guess how long their meetings are? I'll give you a hint: take the Maplwood meeting time, then divide it by three. Sometimes you can even divide it by four.
